I really enjoyed our class discussion
on Post Modern architecture. Going
through all the different architectural styles helped me to understand Jencks and
his key concepts much better. As a New Yorker, it is rare for me to take the
time to stop and admire the structure of all the buildings. Most of us are more
focused on the chaos happening in our immediate surroundings. So taking the time
to view and appreciate the amazing structures from all around the world was very
fascinating.
One of
my favorite examples was the museum that depicted a profile of a face on the
side of the building. I believe this was an example of Anthromorphsim. I found
this slide the most fascinating because while we were discussing it, I kept
thinking that it was amazing how the architect was able to manipulate the structure
of the building to show a face. I thought that was really cool and incredibly
creative. I was also surprised that Dr. Cummings said people in her other class
didn’t see it right away because I felt like it was the first thing that popped
out a me on that slide.
As previously mentioned our class
discussion really helped me understand the reading as well as making it
intriguing for me. The slides really helped me to relate Jencks 11 rules for Post Modern architecture to
actual styles in everyday life and the lecture helped me to relate the reading to
our past readings and discussions.
