Post Class Blog 9/23 Robby Riehle

Since class was cancelled on Wednesday I am still unsure about the Lyotard reading and looking forward to our class discussion. However, for that reason I decided to read some of the other blogs classmates had been posting for this week response. Per usual, Aaron Tanyhill had brought up an interesting concept of the ABC television show Modern Family as an analogy for Post modernism. This is relevant because it plays with the social norm of the postmodern American household. This concept that breaks passed social constructs of the typical family is now becoming more and more popular. For example NBC has just released a show, The New Normal, which I believe can be examined in the   same vein. The premise of this show is a happy Los Angles gay couple want to raise a child. Naturally the look for a surrogate and find single mother and who has recently moved to LA with her eight year old daughter and Grandmother. The show explores the issues of homosexuality, race, and politics that arise when this post modern “family” live together in hopes of bettering their lives.  The concept of the show offers yet another example in the ways Post modernism life is becoming more prevalent in media and everyday    life.
