Before the class I though I understood his concerns and ideas about the mechanical reproduction. And I did not quite agree with his ideas. I thought mechanical reproduction would not harm or change the value of art. However, during the class I found out facts and effect I could not find out. I was not aware of his quote " The instant criterion of authenticity ceases to be applicable to artistic production the total function of art is reversed. Instead of being base on ritual. it begins to be based on another practice-Politics"(pg.40). The way of people think about the art changed, since mechanical reproduction. We think about the money and it's price when we think of Art, instead of reading message, and realizing how beautiful they are. The story and historical back ground are less considered by people. This fact was one of the most shocking thing that I did not realized. Now, I do agree with originality, aura, and text are lost by mechanical reproduction. There was a great example in class about difference between taste grape cool aid and actual grape. Many people tend to think that taste of grape cool aid as an how grape taste should be or understanding as real taste of grape. I learned that how reproduction and replica can harm the originality, aura, and message of things. Anything could be reproduced and start changing and harming it's originality. It seems like media does with sexuality too. Media is pumping out so many reproduced image of men by showing overly fit and overly musclier males. It is so strong that people think being super fit and musclier is how average man should look like and people degrade people who are not. It is same way with female too. This have to be stop or changed to have more self confidence society. Many people are not satisfied with how they look, because of this fooling image media is showing to people. Society with self hating people can not be good. I think people should get out of this trick. It will be difficult without media's change in terms of showing more normal and standard image of people.
