I saw this series of videos a few years ago and I couldn't believe how blind I had been to some of the "lessons" that can be extracted from Disney movies. Because of my preconceived notions of Disney, I did not look beyond how I knew the stories to go, but I believe in this rendition of Belle, the actress points out legitimate interpretations of signifiers and what they signify in Beauty and the Beast.

De Saussure's notion of signifiers and signified meanings has impacted the way I view not only aspects of media but the little things in life. It is absolutely insane that our culture has an underlying meaning whether its the color of a rose as brought up in class or a diamond on a specific finger. It's amazing that these small details give us many times unspoken understandings.
