Post Blog 10/22 Courtney Sparling

I really felt like I learned a lot during Monday's class. I don't believe I was ever told about the RSAs and ISAs in CMC 100, so I found that piece of the powerpoint to be the most informative. I liked how these were explained in terms of ideology, because it was a little difficult at first to see that in things like police, government, and prisons. I now understand that these RSAs all function in support of ideology because they keep things in order, but there are problems within these things as well. It is a lot easier for me to see the ideology in ISAs because that includes things like religion, family, education, and media.

Another thing in class that I found really interesting was when we talked about Hot Topic. I have been in the store and made purchases in there, but the funny thing is most of the customers who shop there regularly are people who want to be different and revolt against societal norms (punk). I thought it was very true when we said that how can one be truly against norms and stand out if they are buying from a national chain of reproduced items.
