Pre-Class ( Mark Post, " Postmodern Virtualities" )

Mark Post talks about few aspects of the postmodernism. Which are Communication(Superhighway), Reality problematized, Postmodern subject, and Narratives in Cyberspace. He talks about how telephone and internet allowed people communicate and how it changed the history of communication. He thinks the postmodern culture is "emergence of new identities". The question of "what is real?", and "what is virtual?". Virtual realities might be computer generated place like chat room. Social networking is one of the most commonly used communication today. "Individuals appear to enjoy relating narratives to those they have never met and probably never will meet." Users become their own "producers, agents, editors and audiences." This means total control, and therefore power. "As the second media age unfolds and permeates everyday practice, one political issue will be the construction of new combinations of technology with multiple genders and ethnicities. These technocultures will hopefully be no return to an origin, no new foundationalism or essentialism but a coming to terms with the process of identity constitution and doing so in ways that struggle against restrictions of systematic inequalities, hierarchies and asymmetries." In my opinion, the world we are living in right now is very new. People think we are use to what we are living in and have total control and understanding of it. However, the truth I think is that, we are just getting use to postmodernism. We are the generation of postmodernism, I can not wait for what is after postmodern, it just make me wonder how crazy it would be. Check out the link!!!
