Post Class 10/10

Finishing up Zizek " " today he had a lot of key quotes that were controversial about 9/11 When he said "America Got what it fantasized about, and that was the biggest surprise" that’s a statement that makes others feel uneasy, it made me feel uneasy simply because it is kind of true. In Our biggest action blockbusters of the summer we see movies that have so much chaos and destruction. Have you ever seen a Transformers movie? I believe in the last movie there was catastrophic property damage, I saw building being leveled. Entire cities collapsing because of a robot fight. It was absurd, but I loved it. When this kinds of stuff happens for real, not the robot fighting but the property damage isn't that what we wanted? in a movie trailer when we are coaxed or persuaded in to taking an interest in a movie and going to see it, isn't the big points in the trailers the explosions, the damage, the carnage? (Trailer Sky fall) Aldo in class when we were discussing Disney with Dorfman the quote "Disney has been exalted as the inviolable common cultural heritage of contemporary man; … Disney is the great supranatural bridge across which all human beings may communicate with each other" and after when Dr. Cummings brought up The Pilgrimage to Disney I thought this was a very interesting idea. Other societies in Europe and Asia are heavily rooted in its long history, as opposed to in America where our history is relatively short. I think our society is more rooted in its media, so I think the trip to Disney is like the trip to the Vatican or Mecca.
