Post blog 10/3 Courtney Sparling

I would have to say that I really enjoyed the film screening we did as a class! I had never seen Memento   before, so I did get confused during the the movie. I did not expect it to have the structure that it had, going backwards and not chronologically like traditional movies do. Also, I agree with the class when we said that the viewers are placed in the same position as Leonard. We know as much as he does, and in a sense we are on the journey with him to recover clues and figure out what exactly is happening.

In class, I think one of the notes on the board is the best way to sum up this movie: "Truth is subject to perception and memory." We believe what we want to believe and remember things how we see them in our own eyes, which may not always line up with what is reality and the truth.

Going with this idea of reality and what is actually real, I think that Disney World is the perfect example of how the real world can be masked. The idea of simulation is especially important when talking about Disney. As people today, we like simulation as explained in the in-class story about the geyser vs the automated fountain. In today's world, there is really no difference between reality and Disney World. How can this be true? Well it does make sense! Disney presents itself as fantasy and part of our imagination, but is what exists outside the park's gates any different?
