Pre-class 10/17

Marx states “For each new class which puts itself in the place of one ruling before it is compelled, merely in order to carry through its aim, to present its interest as the common interest of all the members of society, that is, expressed in ideal form: it has to give its ideas the form of universality, and resent them as the only rational, universally valid ones” (40). I found that I liked this quote because I feel like it can be related to many circumstances and events today. For example, the presidential election, in which each candidate is expressing their ideas to us in a way to make us believe that their views are the most rational and is in the” common interests of all members of society”. They are using these ideologies to gain power over us and establish their rule.  They publicize these concepts through advertisements and other media outlets, constantly bombarding us with information until we “confine ourselves to saying that these or those ideas are dominant ….without bothering ourselves about the conditions of production or the producers of these ideas” (40).  This concept can be related to a lot of strategies used to today by corporations, politics and especially the media.
